Process Review
A Quick Refresher
Financial finish lines are an allocation framework to help you answer the questions “How much for myself” and “How much for God’s kingdom”.
Every dollar in your control must go into one of 4 buckets:
- Personal spending (supporting your lifestyle)
- Taxes (unfortunately)
- Future planning
- Kingdom building
For personal spending, set a spending (lifestyle) finish line using one of the three techniques below.
- Maintenance finish line (keep your spending where it is today)
- Benchmark finish line (try the finish line calculator)
- Focused finish line (look through your spending and cut whatever is distracting you from your ultimate purpose)
For future planning (including investments, savings, retirement planning, real estate, and business interest), set a net worth finish line.
Work with a financial advisor to determine your net worth finish line using your spending finish line, any planned wealth transfer to children, and any built-in conservative margin.
The rest is where the fun begins as God gives you capacity to build his Kingdom with him!
Next Steps
Taking it from here…
1. Try your spending finish line
You’ve now already set your first spending finish line! Test it out over the next 90 days. Give yourself permission to re-evaluate after 90 days to fine-tune your finish line if needed.
2. Take our 90-day pledge
If you would like tailored feedback, strategies, and other content over your 90-day test run, sign up for our 90-Day Pledge.
3. Talk to your advisor
Once you’ve gotten your feet wet with a spending finish line, consider talking to your advisor about determining a net worth finish line to prevent over-accumulating.
